BS Metallurgical Engineering
Valuable earth minerals must be processed to extract the minerals and metals, which can be transformed into different products such as coins, jewelry, wires, and steel. Metallurgical engineering specializes in the purification, property modification, and forming of metals. Graduates of the program acquire in-depth theoretical and hands-on mastery of chemical and physical systems involving precious and industrial metals.
BS Materials Engineering
In order to address the ever-changing demands of modern society for better products, materials must be constantly developed and reinvented. Materials engineering provides the tools necessary to improve the properties, processing, and performance of metals, polymers, ceramics, and smart materials for a wide variety of applications. Such innovations pave the way for technological progress in the country.
GRADUATE
MS Metallurgical Engineering
The program leading to the degree of “Master of Science in Metallurgical Engineering” aims to provide students with the advanced education that will prepare them for professional careers as leading metallurgical engineers in the industry, academia, or the public sector. The MS MetE can work for the mining and minerals industry so that sustainable and environmentally friendly practices will and always be adopted. Processing of the extracted valuable metals into useful, functional, and higher value-added products can also be headed by engineers with this specialization.
MS Materials Science & Engineering
The program leading to the degree of “Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering”, or MS MSE, aims to provide students with advanced education that will prepare them for professional careers as materials scientists and engineers in the industry, academia, or the public sector that can handle development and innovation required for the emerging needs for green or environmentally friendly materials, biomaterials, nanomaterials, and other smart and functional materials.
PhD Materials Science & Engineering
The program leading to the degree of “Doctor of Philosophy in Materials Science and Engineering”, or PhD MSE, aims to provide students with advanced graduate education that will prepare them for professional careers as high-level materials scientists and engineers in the industry, academia, or the public sector. The PhD MSE Program is specifically designed to enable students to (a) obtain a broad, integrated, interdisciplinary understanding of the four core elements of MSE — the structure/composition, properties, synthesis/processing, and performance of materials — and their interrelationships; (b) acquire a specialized, thorough knowledge of at least one class of materials (e.g., ceramics, polymers, composites, alloys, semiconductors, etc.); and (c) gain the competence to undertake original and independent research in materials science and engineering.
